A former rebel in a leather jacket, Sheena got her bachelor's degree in design at NIFT, New Delhi, and worked with avant garde designer Prashant Verma before moving to New York to assist celebrity designer Asher Levine at New York Fashion Week, along with creating costumes for musicians including Lady Gaga, The Black Eyed Peas, Jim Steinman and Bruno Mars among others. The shift from New York to New Delhi gave her a fresh perspective on how traditional design is undervalued in India. After leading creative teams at two of India's prominent e-commerce companies, FashionAndYou and IndianRoots, Sheena rediscovered her passion for Indian textiles and founded Mogra Designs in 2014. Her contemporary and unexpected take on age-old crafts, traditional textiles and local cultures has led to the quick worldwide success of her indie label. Sheena strongly believes in sustainable design along with responsible sourcing and constantly draws inspiration from cultural references, vintage textiles and the bohemian lifestyle she aspires to. Mogra Designs has been worn and loved by women in over 30 countries and featured in Vogue, Conde Nast Traveller, Elle, BuzzFeed, FoxLife, The Hindu and The Sunday Guardian among other publications.
